The Boer goat evolved in Southern Africa after being brought there from
Europe. The Boer was chosen to be bred by some South African ranchers in
the early twentieth century to improve the goat industry and be the
world's best goat. In July of 1957, the South Africans formed the first
Boer Goat Breeder's Association to regulate the breeding. In 1993, the
first full bloods were brought to the US and the American Boer Goat
Association was formed.
